Our Story

Spartan Medical, Inc.® was founded in 2008 by a former Air Force Intelligence Officer to provide an extensive portfolio of advanced medical devices and technologies from premier manufacturers to surgeons at VA medical centers, DoD medical facilities, civilian hospitals, and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) across the country.

“I started Spartan Medical to radically change the way the medical device business works,” said Vince Proffitt, Founder and President of Spartan Medical. “I saw large companies beholden to shareholders and profits, limiting adaptability and innovation in a market that demands both. I wanted to a build a business that could provide a full armamentarium of surgical solutions focused on improving patient care and outcomes, because I knew my loved ones would be patients one day. And Spartan Medical has done just that. We have built an extensive portfolio of the most innovative surgical and clinical solutions available on the market.”

Fifteen years later, we have served hundreds of VA medical centers, DoD medical facilities, civilian hospitals, and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) around the world, not just across the country. Spartan Medical is also recognized as a “top priority vendor” in the VA as a certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small-Business (SDVOSB), and has been awarded more than 700 federal government contracts, including multi-year Blanket Purchase Agreements at over 30 major military treatment facilities with 15+ years of flawless performance.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we used our medical supply expertise, spirit of service, and logistical skills to provide rapid-response COVID-19 mitigation programs to schools, colleges, businesses, and government agencies. The comprehensive, turnkey mitigation programs helped Spartan’s customers suppress COVID-19 outbreaks and keep their organizations operating. One of our customers in the higher education space was awarded the best pandemic response program by a 400-member national organization, establishing Spartan Medical as a proven leader in the medical operations management sector – the planning and organizing of large medical projects.

Because of this success, Spartan Medical shifted from a traditional MedTech supplier to a medical solutions company providing a full range of programs to a vast array of customers. We launched two technology solutions to help address the “hidden pandemic,” the mental health crises plaguing college campuses and veteran communities. We also joined forces with Tangelo, a food-as-medicine logistics platform, to provide the Veteran HealthPak™, a comprehensive solution to address the clinical needs of the 13.8 million veterans who have one or more chronic health conditions.
