Dr. Joseph Haymore
Chief Medical Officer
As Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Haymore oversees all clinical services and operations, ensuring the well-being of both patients and employees and acts as the liaison between the Spartan’s leadership team and clinical staff. He is responsible for overseeing health care delivery and ensuring that it’s of the highest quality and safety. He does this by engaging with staff and identifying and implementing performance improvement metrics. Dr. Haymore is tasked with not only improving the quality of care but also curtailing costs and maximizing resources, identifying and coaching future leaders, and helping develop and implement organizational strategy and policy.
In addition to the day-to-day operation of Spartan’s clinical services, Dr. Haymore is heavily involved in Spartan’s organizational strategy and planning. He brings a clinical perspective to planning discussions and informs other executives of areas of concern and industry trends. He is also heavily involved in budgetary discussions and leads the RFP Response Team for all clinically related contract and grant opportunities.
Dr. Haymore has been in nursing for over 35 years. He received his BSN and MS from Georgetown University and obtained certification as a Nurse Practitioner in 2001. He returned to the University of Maryland School of Nursing, where he earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. During this time, he has worked clinically in Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Neurocritical Care.
In addition to providing direct patient care, Dr. Haymore is a widely published author of peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and clinical practice guidelines. As a researcher, he has both served on two Institutional Review Boards (IRB) and worked as an active team member on over 20 clinical investigational studies. Dr. Haymore has also lectured extensively throughout the United States for over 25 years.
His service to the profession includes serving on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, Liaison to the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and Liaison to the American Nurses Association.
